Should You Price Shop For Dentists?

Shopping around before making a final purchase can be a tedious exercise but well worth your time. The same can be said if you are looking for a dentist.  However, the price should not be the only deciding factor for your choice.  There are several other considerations when choosing the right dentist for you.

Referrals and Recommendations

You're probably anxious or afraid to visit the dentist, especially if it's your first visit. To alleviate your fears, get feedback from family or friends who have done it before.  Find a dentist in your area through the American Dental Association.  You can filter by location or specialty, depending on your need.

Reliability and Honesty of the Dentist

All dentists aren't the same. Their practices will vary and you want to ensure you are comfortable with the one you choose. Do your research.  Look for a dentist who is honest, reliable and has the skills, knowledge, and expertise to do a good job.  Check reputable websites and social media to find out about other persons' experiences.

Ensure the Dentist Has a Valid License to Operate

You have spoken to persons, obtained referrals and you are about to finally choose a dentist to visit. However, have you already checked to ensure that the dentist is qualified and is operating legally in that particular state? Dental services vary tremendously even in the same state and so does the cost of the dental services.  Just ensure that the dentist selected is certified and licensed to provide dental care services.

Quality and Service

The quality of the service and the range of services provided are of utmost importance.  You will want to know that you are going to get the best quality at an affordable cost.  Find out the range of services offered, to help you make your final decision.  If you have already built a relationship with a dentist and believe you are getting value for your money, you will be less likely to shop around.  However, dentists should not be able to get away with overcharging.

Whether it's cosmetic dentistry, basic or major dental procedures, choosing the right dentist is important.  Paying exorbitant prices does not mean you are getting services better than those provided by other dentists. Even if you don't have dental insurance, you can be offered dental discounts.

Don't just price shop. Get the facts before you decide on any dental procedure that you're paying for out of pocket. To learn more, contact a dentist like Dr. Jon Douglas Lesan, DDS, RpH, PA
