And They Called It Mellow Yellow: Three Tricks To Whiten Your Teeth At Home

Teeth whitening is one of the most sought after cosmetic dental procedures, and it's no wonder why. Yellow or discolored teeth can be embarrassing and make you hide your smile in shame. There are several factors that play a role in the discoloration of your teeth. Whether it's genetics, dark drinks or dental hygiene, below are the best natural methods to whiten those teeth so you can smile in confidence.

Coconut Oil

Not many people find stuffing your mouth full of oil very appetizing, but it actually works wonders when removing hard stains, giving your a whiter and brighter smile. In all actuality, the taste of coconut oil isn't that bad. Coconut oil works by clinging to the plaque on the tooth enamel and pulling it away, revealing whiter teeth. It's a technique called "oil pulling". An added bonus to using this technique is that coconut oil is also full of lauric acid, which removes bacteria from your mouth, making your teeth and gums stronger.

Before you brush your teeth in the morning, scoop a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth. Move the oil around your teeth with tongue for ten minutes and spit the excess oil out. To remove the oily feeling from your mouth, just brush and rinse as usual.

Strawberry Tooth Scrub

Strawberries work to whiten your teeth by removing the plaque that is causing your enamel to look yellow or discolored. Strawberries also contain malic acid. Malic acid is an active ingredient that breaks down the stains on the surface of your teeth, making your teeth whiter.

To make this scrub, you need to mash three strawberries into one-half teaspoon of baking soda a one-half teaspoon of salt. The salt works as an abrasive and will buff out the stains on your teeth. Apply this solution to your toothbrush and brush with it. Let it sit on your teeth for three to five minutes before rinsing away with warm water.

Baking Soda And Lemon Scrub

Baking soda works to remove stains off of the surface of your teeth by being a mild abrasive, like salt. Baking soda is also full of alkaline, so it will remove harmful acids from your teeth, making your gums and enamel stronger. Lemon juice will remove stains from the enamel of your teeth by bleaching them. Lemons have natural bleaching properties and are very effective when making your teeth whiter. You don't want to use this solution every day however. If you over use this solution, the acid in the lemons will start working against you and can cause damage to your teeth.

Mix three tablespoon of baking soda with enough lemon juice to form a thick paste, like toothpaste. Massage a liberal amount of the paste to your teeth and let it sit for three minutes. After the three minutes, rinse your mouth with warm water or your usual mouthwash.
